Bachir Nawar, Partner


Bachir Nawar is a Partner at BLK Partners based in Abu Dhabi. 

Bachir, a trilingual lawyer with over 20 years of experience throughout the GCC, previously served as the Chief Legal and Compliance Officer at Shuaa Capital PSC before joining BLK Partners. His extensive expertise covers various areas including acquisition, real estate, forensics, litigation, governance, and compliance.

In governance and compliance, he took charge of pivotal dependencies, initially serving as corporate secretary and later transitioning to a role as advisor to the board. Bachir played a crucial role in drafting governance and compliance policies, overseeing their maintenance, interpretation, and application across intricate legal scenarios. Notably, he led a dynamic and synergistic compliance team capable of navigating regulatory frameworks across diverse jurisdictions including the UAE mainland, GCC, ADGM, DIFC, KSA, offshore jurisdictions, and the UK regulatory sphere.

In funds and transactional work, Bachir played a key role in establishing three open-ended Shariah funds in the Abu Dhabi Global Market, as well as overseeing the acquisition of trophy assets in London. He also advised on significant share swaps, executed landmark reverse takeovers, and established property and asset management for London's largest single-owned estate.
 

In shareholder activism and litigation management, Bachir established the first open-ended shareholder activist fund (Constructivist) in the Abu Dhabi Global Market. He orchestrated key acquisitions of stakes in companies across the GCC and successfully supported collection endeavors from previous top executives of portfolio companies. Additionally, Bachir led strategic campaigns and established balances and checks for group litigation, provided advisory on reputational damages in high-profile disputes in the GCC and the UK, and adeptly managed sensitive multi-jurisdictional litigations. He conducted thorough forensics and white-collar litigations for portfolio companies, effectively fending off attacks across various regions including the UAE, Malaysia, Seychelles, KSA, and Egypt.

In his private practice roles, Bachir advised on a diverse range of real estate and corporate/commercial matters. In real estate, he provided counsel on Musataha agreements and facilitated exits from real estate commitments in Doha, Qatar. He provided legal support to organizations on stake sales and disputes, conducted investigations for international pharmaceutical companies on suspected corruption, and represented a major US relief and development organization in investigations regarding corruption allegations.

Bachir holds an LL.B. in Private Law from the University of Saint Joseph. He is fluent in Arabic, English, and French with intermediate Italian and is admitted to the Beirut Bar Association.
