Ralph Riachy, Senior Legal Consultant

Judge Ralph Riachy (Ret.) is a Senior Legal Consultant at BLK Partners based in Beirut.

He is currently the Honorary President of the Chamber at the Supreme Court of Lebanon and formerly the Appeal Judge and Vice-President of the International Special Tribunal for Lebanon (2009-2022).

Judge Riachy has a proven track record of more than fifty-two years of high-profile, high-value, and complex experiences in national and international justice and judiciary systems, and his five decades plus judicial service record speaks for itself.

In 1971, he began his career as a counsel. From 1976 to 1981 he served as a counselor for Service des Avis et Consultations at the Ministry of Justice in Lebanon. For approximately 11 years after that, he was President of the Commerce Tribunal in Beirut. He then served as General Advocate at the Financial Public Prosecutor's Department (1992-1993).


 

From 1993 to 1995, Judge Riachy presided over the Court of Appeal of Mount Lebanon. Subsequently, from 1995 to 2010, he served as President of the Criminal Chamber at the Supreme Court of Lebanon. Judge Riachy was also President of the Disciplinary Council for Judges and in the year 2000, was elected ad litem judge at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.

On top of his judicial appointments, Judge Riachy has been a law professor lecturing on the criminal procedure at the Faculty of Law at the Saint Joseph University of Beirut, Université du Saint-Esprit of Kaslik, and at the Superior Institute of Magistracy in Beirut.

Judge Riachy has a bachelor’s degree in French and Lebanese Law from the Saint Joseph University of Beirut, a Diploma from the Superior Institute of Magistracy in Beirut, and a certificate in Comparative Law.

He was admitted to the Beirut Bar Association from 1971 to 1973 where he currently holds no active membership and is fluent in Arabic, English, and French.
