Scott Hutton , Partner

Scott is a Partner and the Head of the Construction Practice at BLK Partners, based in Dubai.

Scott has 15 years of experience in the Middle East. He focuses his practice on construction and development matters, acting on both contentious and non-contentious matters. He also deals with all property-related matters including sales, purchases, landlord and tenant and investment issues. Scott has a wide-ranging practice with a broad mix of local and international clients. He has considerable experience in acting for contractors, employers, consultants and funders. Scott is well-acquainted with all standard forms of construction contracts, with an emphasis on the FIDIC-based contract, the most common form of contract in the Middle East. He also drafts and reviews bespoke contract documentation as required.
Scott has extensive experience with all means of Dispute Resolution in the UAE including litigation before the local courts and arbitration proceedings (both national and international). He has acted in arbitration under the rules of DIAC (Dubai International Arbitration Centre), DIFC-LCIA (Dubai International Financial Centre – the London Court of International Arbitration), ADCCAC (Abu Dhabi Commercial Conciliation and Arbitration Centre), AIAC (Ajman International Arbitration Centre) and the Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration (SCCA).

Moreover, Scott has wide experience in the commercial property and construction markets in the Middle East and has represented major developers and investors in residential, leisure, commercial and mixed-use developments. He also has considerable experience in commercial leasing and asset management, having acted for institutional landlords, investors, and major retail chains. He was also a lecturer on property matters at the Dubai Real Estate Institute.
Scott was recommended by the Legal 500 for “attention to detail, in-depth knowledge of the applicable laws and interpretation of the law’s application in the commercial environment of Dubai.” He was also named a “rising star” in the 2nd Edition of the “Guide to the World’s Leading Construction Lawyers.”

Scott is a member of the Law Society of England and Wales and is on the role of the Law Societies of Scotland and Ireland; he is also registered with the Dubai Legal Affairs Department and sits on the Independent Governance Committee of the DMCC Responsible Sourcing of Gold and Precious Metals Programme and is also a founding member of the UK charity, Finding Your Feet.
